The European Commission has published its proposal to amend the current Audiovisual Media Services Directive (“AVMSD”) which has been in operation since 2010. The purpose of the proposal is to develop a replacement framework for the AVMSD to bring it up to date and to deal with new and emerging issues in the audiovisual sector. The proposals are also aimed at finding a better balance of the rules that apply to traditional broadcasters, video-on-demand providers and video-sharing platforms.
Applications are now being accepted for a new funding initiative for Irish TV and film producers. A joint initiative between the BAI and the Canada Media Fund (CMF), this development incentive aims to support Irish and Canadian producers in developing audio-visual co-productions for broadcast on Irish and Canadian television services. It was announced by BAI chief executive, Michael O’Keeffe (pictured) at the Celtic Media Festival.
